Lake Huron, Mackinac Island

We drove along the western shore of Lake Huron on our way to Mackinac Island. The shoreline was beautiful and the water was crystal clear!

Apparently the geese in Rogers City know how to read because I didn’t see any of their poop around!

View of the Mackinaw Bridge from the State Park where we stayed. Apparently, the bridge is a big deal in Michigan! To us it was just another bridge. Mackinac Island was another thing! Everyone said we had to go there. We were afraid it would be like so many other places we had been. Nope. It was like none other. You take a ferry there and there are no motorized vehicles allowed. Horses do everything. And bikes are the way to get around. We rode the 8 plus miles around the complete shoreline.

The horses do everything. They take people on carriage rides, move freight, and do street sweeping:

It’s nearing the end of the season and they started taking the horses off the island via ferry:

We love Michigan! On to explore the rest of the Upper Pennisula.

  1. The arch picture is great. What a place! Glad you liked it. The UP boasts a “grand canyon” that we haven’t seen yet. Can’t imagine what it would be after seeing the Grand Canyon. Are you seeing any Fall color yet?

  2. I’m so glad you went to Mackinac Island. Did you stay on the island overnight. We stayed in the hotel, Harbor View, that is right next door to St Anne’s church, the beautiful, big, white one you took a picture. It is an amazing place, isn’t it!
