Finger Lakes of New York
The Finger Lakes is actually an area of NY comprised of many long lakes fairly close to each other. The area is know for its beautiful lakes, breweries and wineries.
Hops:
Our second day here we went to Glen Watkins State Park. We have seen so many beautiful places on our travels but because the sights are so different it’s hard to say what is the most beautiful. But this place ranks way up there. It’s hard to pick just a few pictures and they don’t really do it justice. It was over 800 steps to the top but so worth it!
And the trail down went by a beautiful old cemetery.
And finally, Woodstock for Seniors
One of the things about a trip like this is the luxury of changing your plans. John saw a sign along the road advertising a bluegrass festival called Pickin in the Pasture. Literally camped in a pasture. It was a lot like I imagine Woodstock to be.
A farm:
Tie-dye:
Camping. Ok, at Woodstock it was tents. Seniors “camp” in RVs.
Dancing:
“Sleeping” around. Ok, they were just sleeping.
And a few other things in common with Woodstock. Smokin stuff: Ribs. Lots of drugs: For high blood pressure, colesterol, etc. Seriously, there was great bluegrass and gospel music. It was fun!
And something that makes one go, “hmmm?” This rv next to us is owned by the US Government and says right on the license plate “for official use only”. Well, it is a Fun Finder. Left over from the Clinton administration?
Upstate New York
Here’s a few pics of our travels from the Adirondacks to the Finger Lakes area of New York. These are not views one can see from the interstate!
Our campsite near Cooperstown so John could go to the Baseball Hall of Fame. We love camping on grass. And $22/night for full hookups and a beautiful view.
And our camp site in the Finger Lakes area. $17/night for full hookups and a beautiful view. John even caught fish in that pond.
The Adirondacks-New York
We are back on our adventure after two weeks in California. We are happy to report that, while we were gone, the rv repair facility received the parts for our air conditioner. It took them only a few hours to make the repair!
Our riverfront campsite:
Spent a day at Lake placid, site of the 1932 and 1980 Olympics. First stop was the bobsled run. You can actually take a run down the 1932 cement track with a person who steers and a brakeman. We didn’t do it because it was very expensive, very fast and so not good for someone wearing a cast. We did get to walk down the track that the athletes train on during the winter.
When the pros take this curve they are actually over the Lake Placid sign:
Gondola ride to the top of Whiteface:
Love all the roadside stands selling firewood or veggies. It’s all on the honor system. Load your wood and put the money in the box:
Another fun thing to do on a Saturday morning is to stop at garage sales. Why can’t we strap this to the top of the car?
And our best purchase. $1 for tin snips that will be used in a few weeks to cut off a cast!
