We are staying near DC in a beautiful National Park which is the closest camping to the District. Because we are seniors, camping is $8/ night, although that is with no hookups. The next closest rv park is $68/night but includes hookups. That’s a no brainier. We are a two mile drive away from the nearest Metro station and take it into the city. So easy!
The first stop was the Halocaust Museum. So sobering. The lesson? Sometimes evil cannot be contained. It must be destroyed.
Then to the National Museum of American History. Pillars from the World Trade Center:
I thought this was so amazing. This is how women used to make lace:
Museum of Natural History:
United States Botanical Garden:
National Air and Space Museum:
And just in case you were wondering how astronauts “take care of business” given the gravity issue:
Finally, one of the fun things about using public transportation is people watching. I asked this guy on the subway if I could take his picture. And, yes, that is a live snake. Now that’s quite a fashion statement!
Awesome photos! DC is on my bucket list and I like the way you did it. How was the weather?
First day was perfect. Last two days have been 90plus so we did the inside stuff. It’s suppose to be cooler the next few days so we will do outside things.
We loved DC too, especially all the Smithsonian museums & subway is so convenient. What is the name of the national park you’re staying at?
Greenbelt National Park. So convenient. Missing the ac these last two days with no hookups but we have a battery operated fan so it’s not bad. We have a generator but it’s not big enough to run the ac.
Such a fun experience! Enjoy!
Thanks Annapolis is close by & worth seeing too.
Hi Diane! I’m a few months behind in checking out your blog and am sorry about that. I see that I’ve missed some really interesting stuff and you have done it in such a concise, interesting way. So, from now on I intend to follow the Kiger adventures. Mike and I have never been to New York City or Washington DC so we are planning on going for our anniversary the beginning of November (or maybe a little earlier). I can plan a Europe trip pretty well but feel overwhelmed in planning this trip. Any advise will be appreciated!!!
The lace maker is really interesting, I had no idea how it used to be made. Looks a bit confusing though!
