Louisiana-Day 2

One technical issue: we love, love, love reading your comments! But just to clarify, even though you may subscribe to the blog, unless you include your name in the box provided at the end of your comment, it shows up as from anonymous. That’s fine if you want to remain anonymous but I’m guessing that most of you don’t.

Because rain was forecast for today, we went to the National WWII Museum. It was terrific. I wish everyone could see this and be reminded of not only the sacrifice that was made by so many (the numbers who died are staggering) for our freedom but also to be reminded of what evil, left unchecked, can do.

Louisiana-Day 1

Here’s a few pics for my California friends who have never been to a Cracker Barrel restaurant. They offer free overnight parking for rv’ers so we stayed at one in Lafayette last night.
A real wood burning fireplace is nice but their food is definitely not diet friendly. Pure southern comfort. Before you get to the hostess you go through their store:

Leaving Texas 😢

On to Louisiana but here are some random thoughts on the great State of Texas:

From Diane: Having never been to Texas, I had my impressions of what the state would be like (flat, dry, backwards??). Boy, was I wrong. I loved Texas! Here are a few reasons why:

Cheap gas. Premium as low as $2.00/gal.

REAL country music on the radio stations. No Taylor Swift
here!

The kindness of people. Like the lady on the city bus who
must have realized that we were tourists and told us
what bus to take back to the rv park without ending up
in a bad area of town. Or the policewoman
who guarded our car while we went on a bike
ride because where we were parked had serious
problems with car break-ins. And everyone waves at you
or asks “how ya’all doin’?”

The Hill Country

LBJ ranch

BBQ and country fried steak!

And last but not least, seeing long-time friends, the
Guerreros, the Johnsons, and the Thompsons.

Here are some thoughts from John:

What I liked:

Posted speed limit 80. This would have appealed to me more
20 years ago but is still bitchin.

A saying I saw: “I’d rather be a fencepost in Texas than
the king of Tennesee”. Can’t wait to get to Tennessee
to see what that means.

Six inches of snow on the ground driving through the most
boring part of Texas.

Being able to drive on the beach for miles.

Seeing longhorn steers.

Disappointments:

Lots of road kill, but not a single armadillo.

Last day in Texas.

Started the day with a little fishing on the inland waterway. Didn’t catch anything but it was a beautiful morning:

Love Texas ferrys. Except when dodging oil tankers. And they are free:

Tomorrow we will be posting our thoughts on the great State of Texas!

So much for warmer weather!

Just spent a few days in Port Aransas (near Corpus Christi). We spent a few days at a state campground and then one night right on the beach. Texas rocks!
The first two pics are especially for the grandkids. Missing Slater, Cruise, Selah, Stone, Duke, Maverick, and Baby Hux.
